Description

Newton Community Farm &  Kids Cooking Green are cooking up some fun events for kids in grades K-1-2

A 5 week program, Tuesdays 1:30pm - 3:00pm beginning January 12th through February 9th.

Come visit the farm, cook with local farm fresh products before sitting down at the table to sample what we have made. Kids will go home with recipes and knowledge of what life on a farm is about! The five sessions are;

Cinnamon & Spice & Everything Nice is what is in our homemade apple & pear sauce. We will make and serve our wonderful warm, sauce and then make a homemade ginger tea to warm up a chilly winter afternoon. We will talk about how good certain spices and cinnamon are for a growing body!

Noodles, Noodles  Learn how fun it is to make pasta dough from scratch using local eggs and semolina flour. Roll and then cut your own noodles and make a delicious nut-free pesto to eat with the pasta.

Pancakes, Pancakes  Corn wheat pancakes, jam and Eric Carle. A dynamite combination of nutrition, cooking and fun. Learn where all of the ingredients for pancake making come from (the Farm) and how they make it to our farmers markets and grocery stores. Then we make pancakes, shake some butter and enjoy our own pancakes at the Farm Kitchen! We will end the class by reading Eric Carle’s book, Pancakes, Pancakes!

Yes, Dr. Seuss, there are green eggs!  We will cook with local colorful eggs and talk about the different chickens that they come from. Local author Jane Sutton will visit our class and read her new book, What’s Up with This Chicken.

Smoothie Bowls  The newest craze to hit kitchen blenders is smoothie bowls. They’re thicker than traditional smoothies but not quite as thick as pudding, so you pour them into bowls and eat them with a spoon. The great thing about smoothie bowls is that they deliver a giant nutritional punch when made with ingredients like milk, yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, and chia seeds, and then topped with whole grain cereal, fruit. Fun to create and delicious to devour!

General Public $250 per child, Friend of the Farm $225  (Please note that in the event Newton Public Schools is closed due to inclement weather the farm will also be closed and class will be re-scheduled).

Location: Newton Community Farm
