High School Education Internship Application 2019

Ages: entering grades 9-12

Free to participate. Internship is unpaid. Brief interview required. Registration should be completed by the applicant (intern) with the exception of the photo release and parent/guardian's electronic signature which must be completed by a parent/guardian.

The education internship program at Newton Community Farm is ideal for those individuals who have a combined passion for the natural world and for working with children in an educational setting. You will be working as part of a team in which following instructions, a flexible approach, and a positive and enthusiastic attitude are a must. It is okay to have little or no farming, gardening, or teaching experience. You will be a role model for younger children and must exhibit good judgment and maturity as well as openness and enthusiasm for trying new things.

High School education interns help with the day to day running of the summer programs, supporting the lead educator in a multitude of ways including, assisting with individual children or small groups in the learning garden or chicken coop, harvesting and preparing snack, as well as guiding campers in crafts and games. Most of our day is spent outdoors. Interns will have lunch together each day with the director of education to discuss topics of interest in the areas of farm-based education, sustainable agriculture and social justice. 

Interns may work with a range of ages according to programs offered this summer: Farm Explorers (ages 3-4), Little Diggers (ages 5-6), Farmers in Training (ages 7-10), Young Farmers (ages 11- 13).

All interns must attend an orientation session before the internship begins. As with all positions at the farm, the position can be terminated at any time at the discretion of the Director of Education. Interns are to bring a lunch each day.

This summer we are offering three 4-week internships. You may apply for one, two, or three sessions.
Session 1: July 1 - July 26 (note: no camp July 4th)
Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 12:30PM (includes lunch at the farm, please bring lunch daily)

Session 2: July 29 - August 23
Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 12:30PM (includes lunch at the farm, please bring lunch daily)

Session 3: July 29 - August 23
Monday - Friday 12:00PM - 4:30PM (includes lunch at the farm, please bring lunch daily)

Registration does not guarantee participation in the internship program. Applications will not be accepted without completion of liability waiver, photo release, and medical history form. A copy of intern's immunization records must be submitted before the start of the internship. You will be contacted by the Director of Education to schedule an interview when your application is received. Internships will be approved on a rolling basis.
